TRANSACTION | Elks add American WR Montrell Washington to the practice roster, move one to suspended list.

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Elks have added American wide receiver Montrell Washington to the practice roster, the club announced Thursday. In a corresponding move, American wide receiver OJ Hiliare has been moved to the suspended list.

Washington (5'10, 170) heads North after several seasons playing professionally in the United States. The Canton, Georgia product was originally a fifth-round pick (162nd overall) by the Denver Broncos in the 2022 NFL Draft. Washington appeared in 15 games for the Broncos in 2022, serving primarily as a returner, where he would record 32 punt returns for 271 yards (8.5 yards per return) and 18 kick returns for 340 yards (18.9 yards per return).

The Samford University product joined the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2023 season, playing in seven games across two seasons with the club. Washington was a member of the team for their 2023 Super Bowl Championship over the San Francisco 49ers. The five-foot-10 wideout would also go on to suit up for the New York Giants (2025), Houston Texans (2026), and the DC Defenders of the XFL (2026).

Prior to his pro career, Washington was a standout with the Samford Bulldogs, and was named First-team FCS All-American in 2019 and First-team All-SoCon in 2021.
